WHAT ARE YOUR INTENTIONS FOR 2025? - by Brent Lokker

I’m not one for making New Year’s resolutions, I think because—at least for me—it’s often an attempt to try harder to change myself which, though it sounds noble, is not possible to do on my own, which is what the Lord told us.  But just before the New Year, Suzanne was reading an article about our intentions for this coming year. While the two words have some similarities, I see our intentions as a cry within our hearts that echoes God’s own heart for us. And then, like everything that is of God, it is only a gift of the Spirit that makes it happen.

Yet, our choice to listen to that cry in our hearts and to agree with God is a big deal and an important one in our growth from glory to glory. So here are a few Scriptures and intentions we spoke out loud last Saturday. Whether or not you were there, I encourage you to speak them out loud today.

Galatians 2:20 (NLT)
My old self has been crucified with Christ. It is no longer I who live, but Christ lives in me. So I live in this earthly body by trusting in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me.

Jesus, it’s my intention to trust in you, the Son of God, who loves me and lives in me.
Holy Spirit, I invite you to help me trust in Jesus like a little child!

Colossians 3:1 (NLT)
“Since you have been raised to new life with Christ, set your sights on the realities of heaven, where Christ sits in the place of honor at God’s right hand.”

Jesus, it’s my intention to set my sites on the realities of the heavenly realm
where I am with you. Holy Spirit, I invite you to do this in and through me!

Romans 5:3-5 (NLT)
We can rejoice, too, when we run into problems and trials, for we know that they help us develop endurance. And endurance develops strength of character, and character strengthens our confident hope of salvation. And this hope will not lead to disappointment. For we know how dearly God loves us, because he has given us the Holy Spirit to fill our hearts with his love.

Abba Father, it’s my intention to see the goodness of your heart and love for me,
even in my problems and trials. Holy Spirit, thank you for filling my heart with your love!
I invite you to do this in and through me!

Ephesians 1:3 (TPT)
Every spiritual blessing in the heavenly realm has already been lavished upon us as a love gift from our wonderful heavenly Father, the Father of our Lord Jesus—all because he sees us wrapped into Christ.

It’s my intention to enjoy my deep connection with Christ
and thus experience every spiritual blessing from my tenderhearted heavenly Father.
Holy Spirit, I invite you help me clearly see the goodness of God!

Please take a moment right now to listen to the Father’s heart for you and to echo his desires that are already within your spirit. Speak out those desires for this new year and ask Holy Spirit to fulfil them in you.

I bless you in this next year of your beautiful journey called life!

With Love,

Pastor Brent
