WE ARE LIKE STAINED GLASS WINDOWS - by Todd Benjamin Lout

I went to bed last night thinking about the concept of seeing treasures in others.  This morning I woke up with a song in my spirit. It's a 1978 song called, "Stained Glass", by Keith Green. Keith was a pioneer in Christian music, back in the 70s and 80s. The lyrics kept moving through my heart.

When I poured my morning coffee and sat down to read my daily devotional, "Catching Whimsy", by Bob Goff, my heart jumped as Bob was talking about us being like stained glass windows, our colorful lights revealing the colors in other people. Coincidence? It sure didn't feel like it!

Soon after, I walked our dog, Tyson, through our Pleasanton neighborhood.
I decided to listen to this song during my K9 excursion.  To my absolute amusement I walked through an area where the morning light was shining through various car break lights and neighbor's hanging glass ornaments. Colors were cast onto the sidewalk, making my walk feel like I was in a music video or something.  This was filling my heart with so much joy!

If all that wasn't enough to put a theme in my heart, another cool thing happened.  I had a phone conversation with a friend today. As I shared with him the interesting happenings with this song, he excitedly told me that the very same song was in his heart THIS MORNING as well! He said it was so much so that he was thinking about putting the lyrics on social media.

I'm feeling like this is for us all right now.

Naturally (maybe supernaturally) I am going to share this song with you here:

We are like windowsStained with colors of the rainbowSet in a darkened roomTill the bridegroom comes to shining through

Then the colors fall around our feetOver those we meetCovering all the gray that we seeRainbow colors of assorted huesCome exchange your bluesFor His love that you see shining through me

We are His daughters and sonsWe are the colorful onesWe are the kids of the KingRejoice in everything

My colors grow so dimWhen I start to fall away from HimBut up comes the strongest windThat he sends to blow me back into his arms again
And then the colors fall around my feetOver those I meetChanging all the gray that I seeRainbow colors of the Risen SonReflect the OneThe One who came to set us all free

We are His daughters and sonsWe are the colorful onesWe are the kids of the KingRejoice in everything

We are like windowsStained with colors of the rainbowNo longer set in a darkened roomCause the bridegroom wants to shine from you
