THE GREAT EXCHANGE - by Dennis Lafayette


The great exchange begins and ends at the cross when Jesus gave his life for ours. He opened the way for mankind’s surrender as He invites us to give up our lives in order to live forever as, He intended before the very foundation of the earth. And so, it is with Paul’s revelation of love in 1 Cor: 13. This love which cannot be lived in fullness until we exchange our love for His.

Our compassion will carry us only so far, until we realize in the face of the great human suffering throughout the world, it’s not enough. We must see the world through His eyes of compassion in order to fulfill His servant’s calling on us and we are asked to exchange our compassion for His.

The disciples asked Jesus to teach them how to pray when they realized their prayers were not enough. He taught them the principles of prayer, which was still not enough until they exchanged their prayer language for the Holy Spirits on the day of Pentecost.

Once again, He has a deeper place to call us into when He invites us to pray with Him. The great exchange continues.

2 Corinthians 3:7-12 in The Passion declares, “Even the ministry that was characterized by chiseled letters on stone tablets came with a dazzling measure of glory, though it produced death. The Israelites couldn’t bear to gaze on the glowing face of Moses because of the radiant splendor shining from his countenance — a glory destined to fade away. Yet how much more radiant is the new and glorious ministry of the Spirit that shines from us! For if the former ministry of condemnation was ushered in with a measure of glory, how much more does the ministry that imparts righteousness far excel in glory. What once was glorious no longer holds any glory because of the increasingly greater glory that has replaced it. Not that I have already attained, or am already perfect; but I  press on that I may lay hold of that for whichChrist Jesus has also laid hold of me.” Philippians 3:12 So much about walking with God is about receiving. I think of life kind of like a big ship on the ocean. In order for the ship to move forward, the sails need to be open. Even if everything else on the boat looks perfect, clean, tidy, put together, prepared, if the sails aren’t open the ship won’t make it far. God has encouraged me not to put so much effort in making my life look put together, but instead to open my heart to Him. To come back to receiving His love, allowing Him to be the wind that carries me forward.  I can get sidetracked by my insufficient efforts, or I can open my heart to what He says and where He leads.  I challenge you to press on.
