RAISED IN GLORY - by Brent Lokker

Jesus is raised in glory and so are you!

Christ’s resurrection is your resurrection too…Your crucifixion with Christ has severed the tie to this life, and now your true life is hidden away in God in Christ. And as Christ himself is seen for who he really is, who you really are will also be revealed, for you are now one with him in his glory!
Colossians 3:1,3-4 (TPT)

Let’s take a closer look at that word glory to realize just how astounding this is. The Hebrew word for glory (kabod) means “heavy, weighty, glory, honor, respect.” The Greek word for glory (doxa) means “glory, honor, splendor, majesty.” But here’s where things get really interesting: Doxa more literally means “what evokes good opinion, i.e. that something has inherent, intrinsic worth.”

That word intrinsic means the essential nature of a thing that is true, genuine, real, essential, not accidental. Does that sound like anyone you know? It’s Yahweh through and through. “I AM who I AM!” When Moses asked to see God’s glory, God allowed his goodness to pass before Moses. True to his eternal never-changing nature, God is always good, truly good, genuinely good, inherently good, intrinsically good, and essentially good.

Doxa is derived from the Greek word dokeo, “exercising personal opinion which determines value.”

So, the glory of God is about the infinite value and worth of Yahweh. For us to give glory to God, that is to ascribe the accurate, infinite worth of our matchless King. But how can we know that? What I’m really asking is this: Whose opinion are we talking about here??

Yahweh’s opinion is the only one that is true without any distortions. His is the only opinion that sets us free. His opinion is actually a certainty, unlike the confusion of the world’s opinions. Our opinions independent from God—what we think about ourselves—is the tragic outcome of what Adam lost on humanity’s behalf—our blueprint doxa, the glory of God within us. And what is your certain value according to God? What is your inherent worth? It is the cost of the blood of Jesus. You have the same value to God as Jesus.

Just. Let. That. Sink. In.

You have infinite value, as does every other person on the planet, who’s also created in the same glorious image of God that you are. We have a hard time with this one because we’ve been taught that glory belongs to God alone. While it’s true that all things originate from God and that glory belongs to him, and while it’s also true that God won’t share his glory with another, you are not another! You are one with him. Love has chosen to share his glory with you. Love has chosen to make you an heir of all things that are the essential nature of God—his glory that is now your glory!

In the Old Covenant, when Moses asked to see God’s glory, God’s goodness passed before him.
In the New Covenant, when you and I ask to see God’s glory, God’s response is:
“Look in the Mirror!!”

This is Christ in you, the hope of glory! The certainty that everything Christ is you will discover in yourself because all will be revealed. “When you see him, you shall be like him!”

I leave you with these two questions to ponder:
  • What would the world be like if every person could see the same value, the same intrinsic worth, the same glory in every other person that God knows to be true because he created each one in his glorious image?
  • How would your life change now if you were to see yourself with the same value God does?
